Nissan Repair: power steering hose, banjo bolt, power steering hose

Question
i need some help replacing the power steering hose on a 1983 Nissan Pulsar NX. I need to know how to remove the hose.

Answer
Mark,

The end of the hose that connects to the power steering pump uses a banjo bolt connection so you can rotate the hose where it will not interfere with the surrounding area.  This b0olt is hollow and has a crush washer on both sides of the connection on the hose.  Be sure to use the new washers that come with the hose.  The other end is a fitting that screws into the rack on the steering.  Basically, you just unbolt the old one and connect the new one like the old one.  When done be sure to use Nissan power steering fluid to replace the fluid that was lost in the process.  Never over fill the power steering as it will smoke the power steering pump.  Look at the container where there is the max and min fill points and be sure to keep it between the lines.  Once you have everything connected and the fluid in the system start the car and turn the wheel both ways to get the rack to burp the air out of the system and recheck the level so you can top it off.
