i have a 2000 quest.  couple days ago i was driving down the highway and the engine would start to hiccup and if you let of the gas and then pushed the gas again it would clean out.  went about 100 miles and it started to cut out even worse and then finally it quit going down the road.  got towed home and it started back up.  then shortly at 200 rpm it would just sputter.  now it won't even start,  changed plugs wires, filter, and even fuel pump please help.

Jerry,

I assume it is setting a code with the Service Engine Soon light being on?  If so get a code reader and check the codes.  The Quest is known for blowing mass air flow sensors.  And, since you say you replaced the wires, filter and fuel pump I would be thinking the mass air flow sensor.  Now, these engines are known to blow the coils so you had to remove all the coils to get to the plug wires to change them.  If your scan of the codes tells you multiple cylinder misfire you need to replace all the coils.  If this is the case go to courtesynissan.com to get a set for cheap.  A normal dealership sells them for about $300 for all six.  You could also check out rockauto.com if you have the time to have the vehicle down.  I just did a set on a 2000 Maxima which is basically the same engine as yours and I bought them at the dealer because the lady wanted her car running right now...  So, check the codes and get back with me.

Answer
If the car starts with starting fluid then you have a fuel delivery problem.  You could have a relay for the fuel pump that has gotten corroded and is lazy.  That is, it takes a while for the contacts to make connection and that would be why it would run after using starting fluid.  I assume it stays running after you hook everything up?  Do get the codes so we can figure out what the computer is reading as far as problems go.
