Nissan Repair: water leak, gasket material, nissan maxima

Question
water is leaking into the trunk of my car whenevr it rains or i take it to a carwash. it is leaking from the driverside bend where the door closes. i have 95 nissan maxima. could u tell me the reason its happeneing and a possible way to stop it.

Answer
Parthava,

If it is leaking into the trunk and not the floor I would think it was the back glass gasket.  If it is leaking at a door seal has the car been in a wreck?  If not I would be looking at the door gasket to see if it is cracked or that the rubber has degraded to the point where it no longer seals.  if there is enough gasket material left and it has only collapsed then you could put foam rubber tape under the old gasket to beef it up where it would seal again.  Now, if the gasket is defective you might ahve to purchase new ones.  Also, on the trunk be sure to check to see that no one has put something too large in the trunk because it could have sprung the hindges and that would allow water to enter at the top edge.  If this is the case I would be looking at bending it back and/or readjusting the trunk.
