Nissan Repair: car repair help, clutch release, clutch master

Question
1991 nissan maxima manual transmission and the clutch pedal will not return to it position When press down it dosen't come back up. What is the problem

Answer
Check the clutch master and slave cylinder for leaks.  If the master and slave are not leaking and you have fluid then the clutch release fork or the pedal return spring under the dash is defective.  Check the clutch master and slave first followed by the spring under the dash that returns the clutch pedal.  If all of these are good you are looking at getting under the car to check the clutch release fork to adjust it or you might have to replace it.  The clutch release fork would require taking the transmission out of the car so this is a last resort.
