Nissan Repair: Nissan Quest A/c, nissan factory, nissan dealership

Question
-------------------------
Hi Von,
Thank you for the prompt response. Actually, we bought it used from another person. We took it to the Nissan dealer today and they have found out that the van has had a severe collision and had its body work done somewhere outside the dealer. I believe now they do not cover the parts which have been replaced by an outside vendor. What is the best option for me from here?
Thanks,Srividya

We bought this 2004 Nissan Quest a month ago. Some how, all the freon has leaked . Now the a/c works sometimes and doesn't at other times. My question, what is the best thing to do? Go to the dealer from where it was bought originally(Stevens Creek) or would any dealer do? For how long is the warranty period for a 2004 Quest? What will be the app cost to repair this?

Srividya,

The vehicle is covered for 36,000 miles under the factory warranty or for three years from original, in service, date.  It should cost you nothing but your time to take it in.  No loaner car is offered under the Nissan factory warranty and any Nissan dealership will perform the work.  You could go back to Stevens Creek and raise hell and they might give you a loaner since you have only had the car a month.  They are supposed to do a good inspection of the vehicle before they give it to the customer.  But, it seems that they never really check everything.  And, if your airconditioner is intermittent there would be no way for them to have known before you took delivery.  Now, that it is showing a problem your vehicle should be taken care of.

Answer
Srividya,

If the individual you bought it from will not make it good and Nissan will not do it under warranty.  You will have to pay out of pocket.  Just have them find and correct the leak and recharge the system and you should be fine.  I would guess around $300 if the parts are not extensive and $100 of that is to evacuate and charge the system.
