Nissan Repair: 1990 300zx wont start, transistor module, power transistor

Question
Hello,
First off, thanks for the extremely fast response.  I have checked two coils by placing them next to metal and having someone crank the engine, no spark.  Since there are individual coils for each cylinder i thought there isn't an actual distributor.  I also checked the connectors on top of the coils and the there is a hot wire when the ignition is turned on.  How would i find a signal through the distributor?  i suspect that the power transistor module has gone bad, how would i check that?  Thanks again for your timely response and expertise.

Whenever i would rev the engine up the engine would vibrate and then quit on me and wouldn't start again for some time.  This has happened at least 3 times.  just recently i was driving the car on the highway at a constant rate, not  accelerating and the engine just quit.  No sputtering, hesitation, or anything.  I sprayed carb cleaner into the intake and i don't even get a back fire.  I was also unable to see any spark.  All relays and fuses seem to be intact.  What could this be?  it's pretty frustrating!  thanks for your help.

Erit,

Check for spark as it sounds like the distributor is defective or the coil has went out.  Check the iginition circuit by taking the coil wire off at the cap and holding it close to the block and then have someone crank the engine.  If you get no spark check to make sure that you have power to the coil.  If you do then check the distributor hall effect sensor to see that it is sending a square wave to the computer.  If you get signal out of the distributor then it is the coil.

Answer
Erit,

Yes, a 90 has individual coils.  Therefore, the hall effect pickup is on the engine and it tells the computer when to fire the coils.  I don't think yours has a transistorized amplifier for the computer to read the sensor.  So, if you are not getting spark the crank sensor is defective or the computer is defective.  I would check the computer for codes before I went any further.  Check for codes and get back with me.  Now, you are sure you are getting fuel to the injectors?  LEt me know and we can go from there...
