Nissan Repair: The easiest way to tell if motor is locked up?, nissan quest, japanese engine

Question
drive a 1995 Nissan Quest, The other night I hit a armadillo on the road and my oil light came on but it was after dark and Ihad my family with me and I went about a half a mile and and stop on me I thought it get made the light come on. I hit something before and the check engine light came on,but it went back off. So now I know that it had almost knocked my oil filter almost off,and almost all my oil was leaked out. When it went dead with me it just quit and the lights and everything quit working. Since then I have replaced the battery, replaced the oil filter and oil, but it want turn over. The battery is charging but it acts like it wants to turn but it won,t. Before we changed the battery I tried jumping it off a few different times and it would not charge. I need to try to see if it is locked up or what other problems it could before I commit to rebuilding a motor. Right now that not possible. Any help with this would be greatly appreacited.      Sincerely Mike.

Answer
Mike,

If you drove it with the oil leaking out from the filter and you ran out of oil the engine is basically done for.  I would source a wrecking yard engine and replace the locked up one.  You see, for every minute the engine is running with the oil light on you are doing about a thousand dollars worth of damage.  In the case of the V6 you have a burnt crank plus all the rods and pistons.  Also, the block is trash.  YOu might be able to save the heads and other items that bolt on but do not turn like manifolds and the like.  But, the bolck and rotating assembly are done for and the cost of Japanese engine components make it cheaper to go with a wrecking yard engine.
