Nissan Repair: Nissan Maxima Muffler, magnaflow muffler, nissan maxima

Question
I need a new complete muffler for my 2000 Maxima. (I believe it
is 2 parts, front and back, correct?)
I was told that there are no OEM parts for the 2000, but have
found them online on several sites. Are they legitimate?  And if
so, which brand(s) do you recommend?

Answer
Elle,

The 2000 Maxima uses the Skyline muffler and it is a really cool muffler.  It has a titanium baffle that opens up the faster you go.  So, it is quiet and allows for more power.  Yes, your car has a back muffler and a resonator up front.  The aftermarket parts are fine and I have a 2000 with a Magnaflow muffler and it is excellent for performance.  But, if you like quiet I would stick to the stock design.  Go to rockauto.com on-line and you should be able to find the stock components to replace your system.  I am wondering if you live where they use salt on the road since you say you need a complete system.  I have a 2000 Maxima and the pipes are fine.  Plus the system is aluminized and stainless in places.  So, if it does need to be replaced make sure you get all the components you need.  There is a flex pipe that is forward of the resonator and converter.  So, I assume you just need the resonator and muffler along with the pipes that connect them?  if that is the case check out rockauto.com and you should get what you need cheap.
