Nissan Repair: Radio in 1988 Nissan 300ZX, 300zx nissan, nissan 300zx

Question
-------------------------
Thanks for helping me.  So far--no luck.  All of the fuses are good.  Nothing works with the radio or tape player.  The antenna that used to go up now doesn't move.  Sure hope this information is enough to let you come
up with another solution I can try.  Thanks again.

Question
-Dear Mr. Sudderth,
This news is wonderful.  There is no theft deterrent on the radio.  When I looked in the fuse box by the drivers side, there was only one fuse for audio.  Where would I find the other fuse to check?

You are wonderful!!!  Thank you so much.

Question -
My radio was working fine until the battery in the car died from not using it.  After replacing the battery, the radio will not work at all.  I've checked the 10A fuse but this was still good.  Any suggestions? The car is a 1988 300ZX Nissan.   Thanks so much.
Answer -
There are two fuses that run the radio.  One fuse is for the memory and the other is power.  Also, be sure to check to see that you do not have a theft deterrent radio that has to have a code set to unlock it.  If this is not the case mail me back and I will research it for you.

Christine,

Check to see that there is not another fuse in the panel that shows bad.  They wire many things together and there is a chance that it is on another crcuit.  I would check all the fuses.  Also, check the radio to see if it works in tape mode or the AM station.  Also, does the antenna go up when you turn the radio On?  Check these things out and mail me back.

Answer
Christine,

You are not going to like the answer here.  Take the radio out and check the power feed to it.  If there is switched power and constant power for the radio presets you have found the problem.  I would not have thought that the radio power board could be blown but that is what this is sounding like.  It is either that or the power switch.  If you or someone you know is comfortable with electronics you can take the radio case a part and trace the power input circuit for an open.  There is an internal fuse on this board that can be blown and that would be my guess unless the power button is defective.  I have seen both on different 280 and 300 Z cars so it is probable.
