Nissan Repair: Axle replacement, cv axles, pathfinder 4x4

Question
-------------------------Sorry Von, I didn't mean to confuse you.
I have reinstalled the axles but when after I install the first 3 components of the auto-locking hubs, the snap ring will not fit in the recess to hold the axle in place. In other words, I can move the axle in and out of the hub.

Hello Von,
I just replaced the CV axles on my 95 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 auto.
Now it appears that the axle splines do not extend out far enough for the snap ring to slide into the inside groove of the axle. When I removed the old cx axle, I did not have to knock either axle out of the hubs. They came off with a gentle tug. It looks like I'm short only a few thousandts of an inch but it will not budge. Any ideas ?

Chris,

I am confused?  Are they stuck in and will not come out?  Or, are they too short to reinstall?  If they are the correct part they should fit and if they are difficult to come out it could be due to the clips being new.  I use a pry bar and a screwdriver to get them out and this is normal.  So, with a little force they will come out.  If I am off track here mail me back and I will answer further.

Answer
Chris,

The axle needs to be pushed in more so the groove will allow the snap ring to be installed.  If this is not possible there is something wrong.  I would be lloking at the dust seal on the inside as it is known to hold the unit from installing all the way.  You could use a prybar against the back of the hub to push the unit in farther so you can get the clip on.
