Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Altima sputters / stalls, nissan altima, fuse box

Question
Thanks very much for the extremely prompt reply. Question .... is the relay something easy to change ? If so, where is it ? I don't think I want to tackle the fuel pump myself (unless you think it's not that difficult - I do quite a bit of work myself and have tools, jack, etc. ---just afraid of fire !!)

I sent another question this morning regarding my distributor ... I'll repeat briefly .... I changed the fuel filter last night and while there, removed the distributor cap, rotor and plastic inner cover. When I removed the inner cover there was oil that leaked out .... what does that mean ? What do you recommend ?
Thanks again ... very much.
Bob

Hello,
Two days ago I was driving on the Pennsylvania turnpike and my car began to sputter and loose power. I pulled onto the shoulder. It would idle, but not accelerate (would sputter and backfire). Finally it stalled and would not start. After about 20 minutes, it started and I began to drive. It started acting up again and stalled. I had it towed to a garage who told me that the next day it started and ran fine. I had a similar incident about 3 weeks ago. After driving about 50 miles, it was hard to start and sputtered a lot. After an hour or so, it started right up and had run fine for 3 weeks until my last incident. It seems fuel related.
Thank you very much for your advise.

Bob,

Have the fuel pressure checked.  My thoughts are a fuel pump or the relay that powers the pump is going out.

Answer
The relay should be in the relay/fuse box and it is just plug and play.  The distributor that has oil in th eoptical part means that you should get a rebuilt unit and replace it as the seal in the bottom of it has failed and has allowed oil to get in the trigger mechanism.
