Nissan Repair: hourly rate for engine rebuilt, hook ups, market engines

Question
how much does a regular mechanic charge for an engine rebuilt. engine: nissan (90-95)300ZX twin turbo.

i want to know how many hrs involved as well.

also, how many hrs or time to just drop in the same motor including hook ups and misc. works (aftermarket performance items)

Answer
It is an average of $65 an hour and you are looking at 14 hours to do the twin turbo.  Now, remember that that is not to rebuild the engine.  That is to take out the old one and install a rebuilt or new one.  Also, if you have over 100K miles on the turbo units they will have to be rebuilt too.  I would go with an engine that you know is good and do a swap unless you have the time to send your engine out after they pull it and have it rebuilt and the turbochargers too.  Remember that to bore you engine .030 over and turn the crank .010/.010 is going to run you something like $2000 or more and the turbochargers are going to run a couple of hundred each.  Turbo City in Anaheim California is good and cheap, plus they turn the parts around quick.  An option here is to go to one of the engine importers that get Japanese Domestic Market engines and swap that out.  Either way you are looking at bucks if you are paying someone to do the work.  Also, price is not he deciding factor.  Check around and find a shop that people actually brag about.  You want your baby treated right.
