Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Maxima rotors, nissan maxima, parking brakes

Question
Hi there,

I have a 2001 nissan maxima with 53000km on it.  I need to replace the rear rotors and pads.  What brand of rotors and pads would you recommend and whats a reasonble price to pay for the job.  I have had quotes ranging from $300 to $ 700.

Thanks,

Alkarim

Answer
Alkarim,

If you are going stock on the brakes I would just get some rotors from Autozone or Checker.  I would purchase factory pads.  You could get all the parts from courtesynissan.com and have it shipped to the house.  It is an easy job and you could do it yourself.  If not, I would specify the factory pads and aftermarket rotors and see what the cost is.  The important thing here is to make sure they clean and lubricate the pins the caliper slides on.  When these stick it is what overheats and destroys your rear brakes.  Also, make sure the parking brakes are not sticking and the job should go well.  $70 for each rotor and another $70 to $80 for pads.  Labor is whatever they are going to charge.
