Nissan Repair: starting problems, air intake hose, nissan stanza

Question
Hi Von,
My Grandaughter has a 1985 Nissan Stanza that just will not start anymore. The problem started out by the car starting right away when it was cold & then after it warmed up and was shut off then it would not start it seemed untill the engine cooled off.Now it will not start at all cold or hot.It wont even fire.I have replaced the distributor without any luck. The fuel pump comes on and runs as you can smell gas when trying to start the engine. Also there is spark to the plugsDo you have any suggestions as I have exhausted all mine.

Answer
It has been sometime but I think your problem is the intake hose.  The air intake hose that goes between the air meter and the throttle body may have a leak and if it does you will get unmetered air and that will keep the car from starting or running.  Other options are that the car has jumped timing.
