Nissan Repair: Altima stalls after driving for a few minutes:, nissan repair, repair forum

Question
Hello Von
I had a similar problem mentioned in the Nissan Repair forum. My Altima 96 starts fine, runs fine for some 10 minutes and then when I stop at signal or I slow down, it stalls and then doesnt start again. That time, not even the acceleration pedal works good to get the engine run.I leave it for a while (may be 3 or 4 hrs), and then start, it starts fine (no need of acceleration pedal), and runs fine. Before it could stop again, I came home and didnt use it till now. Worrying if its a distributor malfunction (Is that a ignition distributor that you mentioned about which is going to cost me more or the rotor). Thank you.

Answer
Visu,

Before we get into a new distrobutor lets see if there is something else that is killing the car.  You could have a plugged fuel filter since yours is going into the stall and not run state after ten minutes.  You see, in cold start mode you are getting additional fuel and after the engine warms up the computer starts monitoring sensors that lean out the gas.  If the filter is old or plugged it could cause the problem too.  And, a filter is cheap.  I hate to spend money on expensive parts when it could be something cheap.  Now, on the thought of the rotor vs. a distributor you will find that a rebuilt distributor is going to set you back a couple of hundred dollars where a rotor is only about ten bucks.
