My, 1992 nissan 240 sx ac has gone out , had it checked out, not sure part name but its under the dash. how much sould this cost and will i have to replace the compressor because refrigerant or should i just do conversion. how hard is it to pull dash? this site does not have all the parts to change everthing where would i find good parts for this ac? thankyou for your time troy

Troy,

The expansion valve is bad.  You will have to pull the glovebox on the passenger side adn remove the lower portion of the dash to access the evaporator box.  The expansion valve is inside and it is connected to the evaporator.  My bet is, since you did not mention the compressor making noise that the expansion valve is all that is wrong with your system.  If you have access to evacuation equipment you could pump the car down yourself and change the oil in the compressor and system to PAG oil and refill it with R143 and save a bundle.  Or, you could take it to a shop and pay $100 to have it pumped down and recharged for an additional charge for the refrigerant.  Check rockauto.com for a good source of low cost parts.

Answer
You can get a manual on-line from Nissan and others.  Search Google and type in the year, make and model along with the key word manual.  But, it is really easy to do and the manual is not that helpful.  What I would say is to check the dash as you remove parts and then take the lines loose from the firewall and remove the screws holding the section that holds the evaporator core and expansion valve.
