Nissan Repair: valve train 240sx, nissan 240sx, low oil pressure

Question
I have a '96 Nissan 240SX that seems to have a clicking noise coming from the valve train. I have had this noise for over a year, but recently the noise has become more pronounced. Above an idle the noise goes away. Do you think this noise is coming from the valves, and is there any adjustment that would help, or am I stuck going to a dealer for an expensive valve repair.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
First, change the oil every three-thousand miles.  This keeps the oil galleries clear.  Second, yes, get the valves adjusted.  If you can do it yourself you will save money.  But, barring bad components it should not be over $300 to get them adjusted.  The adjustment is not the hard part.  It is getting the valve cover off to get to them.  Also, do you have low oil pressure?  If could be that the oil pump is defective and when you are off idle the pressure picks up enough to take up the clearances in the valvetrain.
