Nissan Repair: how much?, wheel drive cars, tie rod ends

Question
Hi how are you? my car needs to cv axles also inner and outer tie rods on both sides do you think it is wise for me to kep this car and not get rid of it ? alos could you please give me an estimate as to how much all this work is gonna cost me?my car is a 19198 nissan altima GXE.

Answer
If you can do the work yourself it will be only the cost of parts and an alignment.  Front wheel drive cars are known for both of these problems and it does not indicate a need to git rid of the car.  That is, unless you have not told me about many other things that are going out.  Anyway, CV joints are going to be about $100 a side and another $100 for installation.  The tie rod ends will be about $50 bucks a side and they should throw the labor in since the CV joints are already coming out.  Then another $100 or so for the alignment.  This is really just a part of owning a front wheel drive car and you should not feel bad about getting it done.  If you do not work on your own car I would just keep the paper open and look for a special on this type of work.  Sears, Pep Boys and the like have deals for suspension work and they usually throw in the alignment with a deal...
