Nissan Repair: Misfiring, ngk plugs, auto electrician

Question
-------------------------Thanks, I will try that. What about the fuel pressure at the injector rail. Should it be continuous or will it stop if the inlet pipe is pulled off?

Question -
I have a 91 Pulsar GTI/R that is misfiring very badly sometimes. Normally the car will start and run perfectly, particularly on long fast runs, but will then start misfiring badly under power, particularly as I drive into town and slow down. Turning off the engine and restarting fixes the problem for a while. The plugs show no sign of fouling. I have fitted new HT leads, distributor cover and NGK plugs but this has made no diference. I did pull the fuel pipe off the rail and it pumped fuel for several seconds and then stopped. Is this the problem as I thought the pump should apply continual pressure? This problem started after a major engine rebuild. An auto electrician said there were no error codes from the computer. Please advise.
Answer -
Chagne the distributor as the oil seal has failed and oil is getting on the optical pickup.

Answer
If you take the inlet line off the fuel rail while the key is on the pump will pump continuous fuel out and that is dangerous.  So, if you are going to check the fuel pressure I would go with a gauge and tignten everything down before turning the key to on.  Remember, you don't need to have the engine running to see what the fuel pressure is.  All you have to do is turn the key on and the pump will come on.
