Nissan Repair: 95 Quest A/C wont cool, guage

My 95 Quest A/C won't cool.  I bought a recharge kit and according to the guage it was low, the compressor short cycled so I'm sure that was probably the case.  After putting in about maybe half a pound of R134a the compressor quit short cycling but still won't cool.  Now the compressor will cycle but won't stay on for more than about 25 sec. at a time and then won't come back on for several minutes.  The air coming out of duct is still very warm/hot... any suggestions

The system probably has a leak and needs to be pumped down before you can diagnose the problem.  I would think if it is charged it will last the season.  But, you probably have a leak that is really slow and that is why it would not cool due to it not having enough refrigerant in it.
