Nissan Repair: nissan timing chain replacement, pulley bolt, timing chain replacement

Question
yes i am going to change the timing chains on my 1994 nissan ultama im going to buy a kit but it says the kit does not include idle sprocket and an o ring  is it nessary to replace these parts? thanks wally smith   ps is there an easy way to go about changing these change it looks awful tight in there the engine is a 4 banger

Answer
If you can drop the engine out the bottom there would be ample room.  But, it is not necessary to complete the job.  It is tight and you can remove the tire and the inner fenderwell and then drop the engine  by supporting the car with jack stands and then lowering the engine K-member.  If the sprocket has not been worn down by the chain you do not have to replace it.  But, all gaskets and seals need to be replaced.  Checkout courtesynissan.com and see what they sell as a kit.  To lower the engine you would have to disconnect the exhaust as not to bend it and the hoses and wires if you really want to drop the engine enough to make it worth your while.  It is really a matter of how much suffering you want to take.  It is tight if you do not lower the engine and the gears are fun to line up when you have to look at them at an angle.  Also, be sure to rotate the engine to top dead center before you take anything off.  And, if you do not have an impact wrench the harmonic balancer pulley bolt is a pain to remove...
