Nissan Repair: nissan 240 sx, nissan 240 sx, tensioner pulley

Question
my alternator belt what do i have to do to change this myself please help.......

Answer
Rich,

Go to Nissan and buy all the belts and do them at the same time.  If I remember correctly you will have to take the airconditioner belt off to get to the alternator belt.  So, just do them at the same time.  I think the bolts are a 12 millimeter and a 13 millimeter.  The center of the pulley has a bolt that holds the pulley tight and there is a long bolt beside the pulley that is for adjusting.  Loosen the center bolt of the tensioner pulley and then loosen the long bolt and the pulley will let the tension off the belt.  Then do the other pulley on the inside belt and take that one off too.  Replacement is the opposite of removal.  It does not take much.  Just a cheap socket set and a long extension for the adjustment bolts.  Tighten the belts until you have about an inch of play when you press on the belt.  Check this between the pulley and alternator in the middle of the long run of the belt.
