Nissan Repair: transmisions, shift linkage, bellhousing

Question
im taking offmy tranny on a 91 maxima and cant find any manuals on the proper way to remove it is there a certan order that it comes off?

Answer
First, drain the transmission fluid if it is an automatic or a manual.  This will save the cleanup when you take the driveshaft out.

If you have a lift is would be great.  If you don't jack up the front of the car and support it with good jack stands that will get the car high enough so the bellhousing will clear.  Now, remove the driveshaft.  Then, support the bottom of the transmission with a jack and remove the crossmember.  Now, remove the shift linkage and transmission lines.  Lower the rear of the transmission and get a long extension and remove the bellhousing bolts.  If you could rent a transmission jack it would be even better as it helps in getting the transmission out at the correct angle.  A transmission jack is adjustable from front to rear and side to side as well as up and down. If you have an automatic transmission car you will need to get the flexplate bolts out before you can remove the transmission so do these before the bellhousing bolts.  The cover is in the front of the bellhousing and there are four flexplate bolts.  Ok, remove the transmission and if you have a friend to help even better.
