Nissan Repair: Replacement of Alternator 1998 Sentra 1.6 liter engine, alternator, liter engine

Question
I would like to replace an alternator that has failed on the above vehicle.  Upon inspection, it appears that I need to go under the car to remove the alternator.  When under the car, however, the A/C compressor is directly below the alternator.  I do not see an obvious way to remove the alternator without removing the A/C compressor first.

As such, do I need to remove the A/C compressor first before removing the alernator, or is there another way to remove the alternator without touching the A/C compressor?

Thanks,

Greg

Answer
Greg,

The alternator can come out the top or the side.  I have taken the wheel off and the inner fenderwell cover and then there is access to the alternator.  Be sure to use jack stands to support the car and block the wheels.  It is the easiest way for me.  The inner fenderwell is plastic and is removed by taking clips out and a few ten millimeter bolts.
