Nissan Repair: 2000 Maxima GLE, power window switch, car joke

Question
I own a 2000 Maxima GLE and I am having problems getting out of my car (joke).  First my inside door handle stopped working, then my driver's side window stopped working.  I can hear a clicking sound coming from the drivers door.  It sounds as if somthing is rotating and hitting what sounds like metal.  I am reluctant to pull my door panel off to get a better picture of the problem for fear that I won't be able to get it back together.  Is this somthing a novice should attempt or should I get the checkbook out and pay Nissan? Have you heard of any other problems that sound like these?  Do you have any solutions?  Thanks

Answer
Sounds like one of the rods came off inside the door.  The pull mechanism is metal as are the rods.  But, the pivot clips are plastic.  If you are into mechanics it is not that difficult to get the door panel off.
