Nissan Repair: Troubleshoot Fuel Gauge, nissan 300zx, fuel tank sending unit

1984 Nissan 300ZX GL Model (this model has voice messages) but is not the Turbo model.
All electric systems and other gauges working OK but no fuel gauge indication (always reads EMPTY).
I've checked connections at the fuel tank sending unit to wiring harness and they look fine.
Is there a troubleshooting method I can use to determine if the problem is in the sending unit?
I have a multimeter and electrical knowledge.
Any way to check the instrument panel gauge itself?

You will have to pull out the actual gauge on the dashboard.  To me it sounds as if your gauge is no good.

For something of this type of repair I would take it to a shop, so that you let them hold the liability for any damages.  For this is having to take out partial dashboard.
