My Nissan Altima for the past two days has been leaking transmission fluid. Earlier this year I had to have the manifold replaced(after having a hard time of finding a used manifold). Are those two things connected?  I'm concerned that I might have a bigger problem now. I've taken it to 2 mechanics who I feel are overcharging me to repair this leak. What exactly do they have to do to repair this problem and how much am I looking at to repair it?

Alicia,

I need more info.,  I need to know where it is leaking from the transmission.

Is it coming from the pan, or one of the sensors get the details from the mechanics quote,  exactly what is it they are repairing.

What type of manifold (ie, exhaust, intake, etc.), was replaced.

When the shop gave you your quote sheet, "estimate" it should break down the details of repairs to be done.  Let me have this info and then I could give you a better answer.

Thank you for answering,
It seems to be leaking from the pan. They say they have to change the pan and the filter.
The manifold I had to replace was the intake manifold and they told me that since the part was used any minute it could break. So I'm wondering if both things are related. They unfortunately only gave me a verbal estimate in both places...one said $150 including labor the other said 200 including labor. Does that sound about right?

Answer
Try to use "STOP LEAK" for your transmission (this can be purchased at Wal-mart), if this doesn't stop leak,(in the amount of time the bottle says) than I would have it changed

the estimate does sound about right.

For future reference have them break down on paper what it is they are repairing.  This is for your benefit.  So that you are not assuming this estimate is a repair for what you think it is.  But actually for what they think it is.
