Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1998 Buick Riviera Supercharged, throttle position sensor, buick riviera

Question
Hi, first off, thanks so much for taking the time to hear my problem. My 1998 Buick Riviera supercharged 3.8L, 160,00 miles, has had the SES light on for months now and when scanned, shows 2 codes. P0102 and P0441. The car chugs like it wants to come to a sudden stop even while driving 70 mph and when I come to a stop, it wants to lurch forward. Crazy thing is, it doesn't do it all the time, but most of the time. So far, everything I have replaced has not helped yet such as, fuel filter, both O2 sensors, MAF sensor, Crank sensor, Throttle position sensor,EGR valve, pressure checked for leaks, gets good spark. I'm at my wits end and running out of money! I do hope you can steer me in the right direction! Thank you.

Answer
Hi
REALLY common problem is the MAF sensor wire harness.
You SHOULD be able to purchase a "pigtail" connector from your local GM dealership. It'll come with heat shrink butt splices for connecting to existing harness.
Cut it back a bit, though maybe 4-6inches in case there is a bad spot in harness.
That would be my suggestion.
The 441 is an EVAP code. I actually do not see a diagnostic sheet for a 441 for a 1998 Riv. It may be p0440 or p0442? Either way it is still an evap code. A Small leak detected. Gas cap loose, pinhole in ANY fuel vapor line or canister. A Stuck EVAP vent valve, a faulty seal on top of fuel tank...etc,... Pretty good list. You can have the EVAP system checked by most, good reputable repair shops, that have an EVAP Tester. We use a machine in conjunction with our scanner to seal the system electrically, and introduce nitrogen smoke and watch for leaking smoke. That a pretty standard way of doing it.
Anyways, with car running, go out there and wiggle that MAF sensor harness. If it hiccups whils wiggle test, you pretty well know that it is the harness.
I Do hope this helps.
Good luck
