Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: oil in water, gasket intake, head gasket

Question
my daughter has a 2002 alero, she has oil in her water.
what could be causing it ? she has been told a head gasket,
intake gasket or an internal oil cooler which can it be?

Answer
Hi
IF it is a 3.1/3.4L engine, it is ALMOST surely the lower intake gaskets.
If a head gasket failed, she would PROBABALLY have exhaust in the coolant, which would show up with a simple test MOST shops can preform, A Block test.
It uses a blue liquid and you draw fumes from radiator and if exhaust is present, the liquid turns yellow/green.
I hope this helps.
Good luck
