Auto Racing: Chevy 3.1/3100, cam grinder, milling heads

Question
I race FWD cavaliers/berettas and was wondering if you have any tips on how to discreetly squeeze more power out of them. I know there's a million and one ways to do it with a neon, but can't find much about the Chevies

Answer
Discreetly  ?  Do you mean in spite of the rules ?

Most racing associations are poorly equipped to check the measurements on cams.  You can have a cam grinder re-grind the cam for more duration  (valves open longer)  without increasing lift. (which is easy to measure)
Read the rule book about milling heads and take yours to the maximum.

Weight is one thing that a lot of racers overlook. The pros spend hours and hours, grinding, drilling holes, removing and modifying in order to reduce weight to the minimum.

There are probably thousands of books out on how to modify racing engines.  Look for books in Summit Racing's catalog .  Go to www.summitracing.com   on the web and search books.  You'll find a few things.

Feel free to write back with more specific questions. What you've asked me is way too broad a subject to address in an e-mail.

Good luck,
