Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 99 Park Ave 3.8L non super auto..., crank pulley, crank sensor

Question
Hi,
Was going to change the crank sensor cause got a code for it. Realized I had to pull the belt off first. Went to and waa laah......bolt just turned and kept turning......then broke.... So, I need a tensioner assembly now and not even got to the crank sensor yet. I did get to look and pull the crank bolt, but after I did, I was stuck because the crankshaft won't come off it's perch. So, WHEW! Now I need a tensioner assy and still going because I have to figure out how to get the crank pulley off to get to the crank sensor. Most times I had just pried it off or worked it with a screw driver, but I'm getting the feeling it isn't like that this time. Am I missing something here or am I on the right track? Do I need a puller to get the crank off? Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi
You'll need a harmonic balancer pulley puller to remove crank BUT the bolts for the balancer have to be 1/4" FINE THREAD bolts to screw into the balancer.(about 4-5" long)
As far as the tensioner is concerned, it is the whole heater hose bypass assembly passes trhough the tensioner.
You MAY need the plastic coolant "elbows" as they MAY break off (common when replacing tensioner.)

Good luck
