Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: grand am, fuse block, dome lamps

Question
QUESTION: 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 6cyl.Why does the dome light illuminate when the brakes are applied?

ANSWER: Hi
I see 2 things in common with these systems.
1) the ground (PROBABALLY your concern) It is located on the rear package shelf on the left side (shelf where rear speakers are mounted).
You'll probabally need to remove the package shelf cover to see the ground.
2) the Left IP fuse block. It is located inside the panel you can remove when the left front door is opened all the way. IF by chance the windows were left opened and it got wet in that fuse block, that too MAY be a concern.
I hope this helps.

QUESTION: The fuse block looked ok,I did not find the ground. What is the package shelf? Also, I installed a taillight circuit board and now the dome light only illuminates right before the car is stopped.
ANSWER: The package shelf is the area under the rear glass, where the rear speakers are mounted. Usually has carpet on it.
The third brake light may also be located there.

QUESTION: What part of the fuse block would damaged or what fuse controls the dome light? 01 grand am

Answer
Hi
The INT LMPS fuse actually feeds the battery voltage to the BCM (Body Control Module).
The voltage then goes out to the fuse block again, passes through the block (junction block), and out the the dome lamps and rearview mirror map lamps (if equipped).
I would REALLY look hard at that left fuse block...It looks like it has a lot of common circuits.
I Hope this helps.
