Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1997 Olds 88 wont start, coolant level, intake plenum

Question
My 1997 Olds 88 was running a little rough on acceleration.  I pulled into a parking area, put the car in park and gave it a little gas thinking this might clear the roughness.  It stalled and hasn't started since.  Its getting a spark and air.  I can hear the fuel pump working and I can get fuel through the fuel rail.  The spark plugs are soaking wet and I am about to change them.  Any suggestions?"

Answer
Hi
It sound like the upper intake (plenum) is cracked and has filled the intake and cylinders up with coolant.
It is a fairly common problem.
Check your coolant level, if it is low, It MAY be something to check.
If it tries to start after replacing the plugs, or if it smokes WHITE and thick white, that is almost positivly your problem.
Remove the air intake tube, and see if you have any coolant or "milkshake" looking fluid coming out of the tube.
If so, it is for sure your problem.
Upper intake, upper intake gaskets need to be replaced.
USUALLY this problem is caused by the EGR valve "pipe" melting and cracking the plastic plenum where it passes through.

I hope this helps.
Good luck
