Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1991 Olds Cutlass Sup Cracked Engine Casing, oldsmobile cutlass supreme, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
Do you know if welding a Crakced Engine casing (under front passenger side) in a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 2.3 L DOHC, while Engine Still Mounted will revive the car, assuming rods, pistons, valves are ok?

Do you know what in home electronics tools I may need too after getting the engine going or for dignostics if Engine may or may not start?

Answer
Hello Ron,
You sure pose a interesting question.
A cracked block is extremely hard to repair, even if out and stripped down.
In the car....pretty hard to answer.
A lot would depend on just what is cracked, and what caused it.
If it is something like an ear broken off where the starter bolts on...well, maybe.
But if it is in an area where coolant or oil is coming out, then realistically, I doubt it can be repaired at all, much less in the frame.

If it is cracked due to freezing coolant, it is quite possible there are more cracks than you know about, like internal cracks.

Now...if you happen to be talking about the oil pan...like maybe knocked a hole in it by hitting a rock...then that I have successfully repaired in the car.

Sorry to be less than optimistic. Good luck.
