Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 95 buick century, crankshaft position sensor, damper pulley

Question
The car sputterd and died last night on the way home. would not restart. Checked fuel pressure, ok. No spark. Replaced ignition module, not the problem. Tried to get computer into diagnostics by grounding the terminals at the diagnostics port. Only 3 terminals there. Could not get computer to go into diagnostics. Fuses in glove box all good. What else can I check? Please advise.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Tim,
I don't know exactly where the change took place, but I have a 95 Olds, and it has the OBDII, which is what I think you have.
Prior to OBDII, they had the ALDL connector under the edge of the dash, where you could jump from A to B, and count the flashes of the check engine light.
On the OBDII, to the best of my knowledge, a scan tool is a must to both read codes, as well as clear them.

You are correct that low fuel will not keep a spark from occurring. Just that the proper pressure is required for it to run when there is spark.

Any chance your timing belt or chain might be broke?

There is a crankshaft position sensor, right at the damper pulley on yours I believe. It tells the ecm when to send a spark. Check it.
Some of those modules and sensors can be tested at parts stores.
