Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Air conditioning problem 96 Buick Roadmaster, buick roadmaster, humid area

Question
I bought a 96 buick wagon and the air conditioner works great but it leaks water out of the plastic housing under dash. The outflow valve is clear and even put an L on it to divert water from blowing back. this problem has been going on for long time as previous owner had drilled hole in floor to drain water out. Is there a reason for it producing too much water when condensing? It gets wet on outside of housing. I live in humid area. Is it worth considering repairing or not?

Answer
Hello Conrad,
Forming condensation is part of what an a/c does. it takes the humidity out of the air.
The alternative would have the evaporator freeze up, and then there is no airflow, and high head pressure.
The only thing to fix is making a drain work.
One other thing that might be causing your problem is if the vent, or fresh air door is sticking open.
If the a/c recirculates the air inside the car, it should remove the moisture, drain it outside, and then just cool.
If the vent is open, it will constantly be cooling....and dehumidifying...fresh, warm, moist outside air.

If there is a recirc position on the selector, be sure to use it. But I would also see if I could find the vent door, and make sure it closes on recirc. I might even mechanically block it closed.
