Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: i have a 93 olds 88 with 3800 moter, egr valve, scan tool

my problem is that the service light is ssaying on and we put it on the machine and it told us thath it was the Egr valve so we put it in and it is not it the engine light is still on . i have a number here but we dont no what it is . here is the service number 16141470 can u please help me and tell me why is the service engine light is on

Hello Cindy,
For one thing, the codes stored in the ecm need to be cleared after repairing the problem, weather the egr valve was the problem or not.
Then if it returns, you go from there.
In many models, you can unhook the battery for about fifteen seconds, but yours is close to the time when a scan tool is needed to clear the codes.

Do that, and see what happens.
