Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Olds 3800 engine stalls after running 1 hr in 100 degree temp, engine vibrations, temp guage

Question
HI: My 1995 Olds van with the 3800 engine runs great, but when outside temps reach above 100 degress in the desert AND I have driven for an hour, the engine just dies and will not start until I wait for 45 min with the hood up. Engine will crank and crank, but will not start.
When the car is running,I have the A/C on and the temp guage reads 195..no fluctuations. Once the engine starts, all is well. Great power and no surging..go figure! When the problem occured the last time, I poured water with ice on the 1. ign module and 2. crank sensor.  No help.  Is it possible the temp sensor could be the problem if 'open'
The car starts fine when cold or has set for an hour.  THX

Answer
Hi Bob! I doubt that the temp sensor is the cause. It will cause driveability problems, but not a hot soak stall. If I had to make a guess and If it doesn't have spark, I would say ignition module. They are notorious. What happens is over time engine vibrations will cause a crack in the solder connections internally, then extreme heat will cause contractions of the connections. Also while it is running try wiggling the connector, see if it fails. Hope this helps,
