Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Fuel / Brake Lines, pressure fuel, compression fittings

Question
Is it ok to splice in sections of tubing to fix leaks in a brake line and a fuel line using compression fittings?  It is for a 1979 Caddy Eldorado.  Are there any special steps that need to done, such as dropping the gas tank?

Answer
Hello Dan,
On that car, there is no high pressure fuel pump in the tank, so if you get a good seal, a splice in the fuel line is just fine. That pump is on the engine, and sucks gas from the tank, so if there is a small leak, it will cause running problems, but if you do a good job on the splice, it will be just fine.

As for the brake line, I wouldn't recommend splicing it, if there is any way you can replace the bad line with an orriginal. But yes, I have even seen brake lines repaired. For safetys sake though, replacing is better.
