Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 96 Olds 88 parking brake, debby, mechanic

Question
I was in a parking lot on a hill and went to set the parking brake;when I pushed it went all the way to the floor. Luckily I was able to get brake pedal back up but now it doesn't work at all. Can I repair this myself or is it better to take it to a mechanic? Any instructions would be helpful. Thanks, Debby

Answer
Hello Debbie,
If you are good with your hands, there is no reason you can't fix it yourself.
It is possible one of the rear cables broke, or the front cable, or just an anchor.
Depending on what it is, but you can replace anything a mechanic can replace.
If you are uneasy about it, take it to someone.
