The headlights on my 98 Buick Le Sabre come on automatically when the car is put in gear and cannot be turned off at the switch. When the car is turned off, the lights time out and go off. What do I need to check to fix this problem?

Do you have ANY papers or covers or junk on the dash board ?.
No, nothing on the dashboard.
AnswerDid you just purchase the vehicle ?. If this is NOT the way they used to work then I would say that the sensor and or module for the automatic headlights needs to be tested and most likely replaced.
This will require a technician to perform the test procedures.
