Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Problem codes, olds achieva, evap purge valve

Question
Hello again Ed,

My code reader is now showing me a code that is not in the code listing. It only goes up to 0849 and this code is P1441. Now what is it?
I just replaced the ignition coils and it runs a lot better. There were Arc marks all over the old ones. I smeared di-electric grease on all electrical contacts and on the plug wire sets and the module connection.
I am also recieving a system too rich on bank 1. I am going to run some injector cleaner through it this payday. This is still on the 97 Olds Achieva 2.4 eng.

Answer
Hi,Scott
The P1441 is an evap sys code that states the evap purge valve is showing flow without PCM activating it,the valve is located at the ft lower portion of the intake manifold near the throttlebody,it has a plastic vacuum line with a service port with a green cap attached to it,the connector i believe is red, make sure its plugged in and also check the wires making sure they arent shorted somewere, they are 1 pink wire and 1 drk green with white trace, the dark green with white trace is grounded by the PCM,if that ckt is shorted to ground it will open the purge valve, during normal engine idle, disconnect that connector and the large vacuum line and check if there is vacuum at the port, there should not be vacuum,if there is either the valve is failed or there is something stuck in it.
