Good Afternoon!

I'm trying to help my dad with his 1986 Cutlass supreme.  When he starts it in the morning, or anytime after a good cool down, it will run rough for several minutes.  Usuall;y by the time he gets out of his subdivision it has smoothed out.

He has the 5 litre engine.  He has replaced the choke, and the secondary choke pull down.  Verified the vacuum hoses are OK; done a tuneup.  He doesn't know where to turn next...Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Are you positive that the choke closes all the way ?>

As soon as he starts it, the choke should pull open about approx 1/4 inch.

Does it ?.

Answer
Also have your mechanic OHM out the coolant sensor located just in front of the carb and has a BLACK and YELLOW wire attached to it.

It should ohm out at:

Coolant temp @ 210 degrees    approx 185 Ohms.
