Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 84 Buick overheating, upper radiator hose, buick century

Question
My son recently bought a '84 Buick Century limited. The engine seems to be overheating although the dummy light doesn't come on. He replaced the radiator and the fan motor, but it didn't help. He bought a thermostat but we're not sure where it goes. Can you tell me where it is located and if this should solve his problem? Thanks.

Answer
Hi,Debbie

The thermostat is located at the engine near the intake,if you follow the upper radiator hose to the engine the hose ends at the tstat housing, remove the 2 bolts to the tstat housing and the tstat is located under that,if the tstat is stuck it can cause overheating, but i would make sure the cooling fans come on,they usually come on when temp reaches 219 deg,and kick off at 198,let me know if you need more help.
