Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1980 Olds Cutlass Ignition Problem, coolant temp, olds cutlass

Question
The car has a rebuilt 231 v-6 3.8 auto engine w/
2000 miles on the engine. The only electrical parts that have not been replaced are:starter,
choke,solenoids,ignition swicth.
The distributor was recently rebuilt w/new coil,
icm,pick-up coil,pig tail,cap,rotor.              Also the computer was
replaced, but the same prom was used in it.The car ran after the work was done on it, but it
hesitated,stalled,back-fired,and missed.I checked
the timing,I made sure it was correct. Now the car
will not stay running, when I can even get it
started.Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou for your time,

Answer
Did the rebuilt engine EVER run correctly ?.

Is the CHECK ENGINE light ON in the dash ?.

Pull the spark plugs and see what color the electrode ends are ?.

Do you have an exhaust restriction ?. Such as a plugged catalytic converter.

Has the carb been adjusted at all ?.

Pull the coolant temp sensor, Located just in front of the carb , It has a YELLOW and a BLACK wire attached to the plug.. Remove the sensor and using an ohm meter check the resistance of the sensor.

If the coolant sensor reads over 1000 ohms replace it.
