Jeep: Replacing left vent window on a Jeep Grand Cherokee, jeep grand cherokee, lint free cloth

Question
I need to replace the left rear vent window on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  How do I go about doing that?  I have the replacement glass.  The glass is the only thing broken.

Answer
Jeff,

First, I'm assuming you mean the rear quarter glass? When I think of vent, I think of glass that can open;) Also, I'm certainly not a professional body man, but I've done this a time or two (years ago). The first step to doing this is removing the old glass, and *completely* cleaning the old urethane adhesive. Completely. These things leak because some guys don't clean it thoroughly enough.

The book calls for applying PVC primer along the outside of the glass (after it's cleaned with glass cleaner), then wiping it with a lint-free cloth. Then, apply a fence primer around the edge of the fence (where the glass will mount), and allow it to dry. I've personally never done these two steps, but it's certainly an good idea.

**Make sure you leave another window open during installation to prevent interior pressure from messing with the sealing/curing process**

Finally, apply a nice 1/2" bead of urethane around the window vinyl border location, setting the window into position and locking the clips into place.

I'll be honest with you, Jeff -- some of these terms are strange, and all the glass I've put in was basically with urethane adhesive, but this stuff is right out of the book (in my own words, of course, to prevent plagiarism). Good luck!
