Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1st real problem, emissions test, delta 88

I own a Delta 88 1985 Royale coupe 8clyder 307 engine thats in "great" condition but....I can't get it to pass a emissions test and it's really bothering me because this is my first car and I don't know what to do....I've gotten a tune up replaced my 02sencer..but over all I just don't even know what steps to take to really get it repaired can you help me out?

It's possible that the catalytic converter is bad, especially if someone ran some regular leaded fuel thru it at some time. If the insides get coated with lead, it can't do its job.

You might try running some injector cleaner thru a couple tanks of gas, even if it has a carburetor.
Then, just a couple days before the test, change the oil, and add some STP engine treatment. That will seal the rings and valve guides a little, but if the cat is the problem, nothing but a new one will get the exhaust clean enough to pass.

If there is a shop that does work on vehicles in addition to performing emission tests, they might be a good place to have the work done, since in order to say they do good work, it should pass the test.
