Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: gm fuel system, fuel gauge, full tank

Question
I have a 97 camaro w/ the 3800.  When I fill the gas tank and let the car sit for a while it will turn over but  not start.  This is only when the tank is full.  I have tried bleeding the fuel lines and take the gas cap off to relieve any vapor lock. After doing this the car will start and run fine until I fill it back up.    I have gotten the car running off of starter fluid so I know its not fire or air. I am thinking fuel pump but I would think that a full tank would have nothing to do with it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Mac,
Sounds like the mere weight of the full fuel tank might be pulling against the wire harness, and maybe breaking the contact of one of the wires.
Another possibility is the fuel gauge sender float inside the tank might be having a similar effect inside the tank.
You should be able to hear the pump running inside the tank for about three seconds after the key is turned to run.
If you can normally, but you can't when you fill it up, I might try sticking a floor jack under the tank, and just very slightly lifting up on it to see if taking some weight off helps.
