Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Engine Wont Start, fuse problems, wire connector

Question
My 1989 Olds Ciera wagon, 3.3L engine has been idle for 2 years and wont start.  I installed a new battery and it cranks fine and gets fuel to the fuel rail.  It is getting no spark from the ignition module on top of the engine.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Joe,
There are probably dozens of possible problems.
I would first give a good look at the wires, and see if there is any sign of rodent chewing. Not necessarily on your type of car, but I have seen where mice and squirrels have chewed complete sections out of wires.
I used to think they would only chew the insulation off, leaving bare copper, which could cause fuse problems....and more.
But I have seen them chew clear through the copper, taking sections of wire out.

OK...no rodents....check the fuses. Especially Ign, and Inj.

I assume you have already tried some raw gas down the throttle body, since you have narrowed it down to no spark? Worth a shot.

Back to the no spark... Make sure battery power is getting to the coil and ignition. Wiggle every wire connector you can see. Even where they come through the firewall.
