last week i drove my car 200 kms home and parked it in my driveway. it stayed there for 6 days and when i went to start it i found that my converter had run my battery down. i boosted the car but it just kept turning over like its out of gas even though it has 1/4 tank. i tried a little quick start in it and it runs till i stop spraying, could the fuel pump be stuck, i have had no problems starting this car till now what should i do? p.s. i just had a new tank and fuel pump installed last year.

You stated: when i went to start it i found that my converter had run my battery down.

WHAT CONVERTER ?.

Fuel pump test:

1. Get yourself a helper.

2. remove the gas cap.

3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.

4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.

5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.

6. Does it ?.

If you do NOT hear it run, in most cases the fault is the fuel pump.

the 750 watt converter for my laptop, i jacked the car up and could hear the fuel pump running also unhooked the fuel line at the rack, it pumped fuel just fine but i was told that the pump runs between 40 and 90 p.s.i. and that anything lower than 40 psi the car wont start? is this true?

Answer
If the fuel pump pressure is to LOW it will not have enough pressure to open the fuel injectors or provide enough fuel VOLUME to make the engine run. You need to put a pressure gage on the fuekl system and check the pressure and check the fuel volume.

You also need to see if the injectors are getting battery voltage to the injectors as you try and start the engine.

This requires a special little test light that you can buy at any auto parts store and you simply unplug the electrical wire from one of the injectors and attach it to this special light and as you try and start the car this light will flash ON and OFF telling you that the injectors are getting battery voltage.
